How PRIDE handles your information
In force from 12 October 2026 · version 1.2
PRIDE is the University of Nigeria, Nsukka's app for its registered students. It shows you the records the University already keeps about you as a student, and lets you act on them: register courses, see results and examinations, pay fees, apply for accommodation, carry your identity card and ask the University's offices for what you need. This policy says what the app collects, why, who sees it and what you can do about it.
Who is responsible
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka ("the University") is the controller of your student records. The app and the platform it runs on (this site) are operated for the University by Vertex Labs Limited (RC 1553616). Questions about your data go to the University's ICT Directorate at ict@unn.edu.ng, or to the platform's support at support@vertexslab.com.
What the app uses
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Your name, registration number, email and phone number | To sign you in, to show your own records and to reach you about them |
| Your academic records: programme, level, course registrations, timetables, examinations, results, GPA and CGPA, admission and registration stages | They are the substance of the app; it shows you what the University holds and lets you register and apply |
| Fees: invoices, Remita references, receipts and what is owed | To let you pay and to show you what is paid |
| Accommodation: the hall and room allocated to you, and the hall agreement you accept | To allocate and show your bed for the session |
| Your identity card: its details and photograph, and the chip number of the printed card | To show your card, to place it in your phone's wallet, and to tell whose card is tapped at one of the University's card machines |
| Medical Centre record: your hospital number, insurance scheme and visits | Shown to you alone; the app does not share it |
| Requests you send to the University's offices, and the replies | To carry them to the right desk and bring the answer back |
| Sign-in details: the time, the device and the general place of each sign-in | To keep your account safe and to tell you if someone else signs in as you |
What the app does not do
- No tracking, no advertising. PRIDE carries no advertising and no analytics or tracking libraries. It does not build a profile of you and does not sell or share your information for marketing.
- No card numbers. When you pay by card, the card details go to Remita, the University's collection channel, over its own secure page or gateway. The app and the University keep only the invoice reference, the Remita Retrieval Reference and the receipt.
- No location tracking. The app does not read your phone's location. The place of a sign-in is worked out from the network address, roughly (a city or "outside the campus network"), for your account's safety.
- Your network address is not shown to other students or staff. It is available only to the University's ICT security officers.
Phone features the app asks for
- Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint — optional, to open the app without your password. The key stays on your phone; the University keeps only a fingerprint of it.
- Apple Wallet / Google Wallet — optional, to keep your identity card in your phone's wallet.
- Camera — only when you take your identity card photograph, photograph a paper to attach to a request, confirm your face at sign-in, or turn on video in a call.
- Microphone — only when you speak in a call or meeting you join in the app.
- Photos — only when you choose a picture to attach to a request, or keep a picture of your card or a paper.
Who sees your information
Your records are seen by you and by the University officers whose work they are: your department and faculty for registration and results, the Bursary for fees, Student Affairs and the hall for accommodation, the Registry for your file, the Medical Centre for its own record, and the ICT Directorate for the running and security of the platform. Access is by role and is logged. The University does not give your information to third parties except its collection channel (Remita) for payments you make, and where the law requires.
Where it is kept, and for how long
Records are kept on the University's platform, on servers operated for it by Vertex Labs Limited, with Amazon Web Services in London. They are encrypted whenever they travel over the internet, and our backups are encrypted. The servers are kept in access-controlled data centres, and only named, authorised staff can reach them. Academic and financial records are kept for as long as the University's regulations require, which is for the life of your relationship with the University and the retention period after it. Sign-in history is kept for twelve months. When you sign out of a phone, the keys and the remembered password on that phone are removed.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you may ask to see the information the University holds about you, to have an error corrected, and to object to processing that is not required by the University's regulations. Ask through the app (My requests → the Registry or ICT) or write to ict@unn.edu.ng. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Deactivating or deleting your account
You can do both yourself, in the app, under Menu → Settings → Your account, with your password to confirm:
- Deactivate my sign-in — your sign-in stops at once and every session ends. Nothing is erased. The Registry or the ICT Directorate opens it again when you ask.
- Delete my data — your sign-in closes at once, and a request goes to the Registry and the ICT Directorate to erase the personal data the University's regulations allow it to erase: your contact details, photograph, device keys and sign-in history. Your academic and financial records — admission, registrations, results and receipts — are kept for the period the regulations require, as they are for every student, because they are the University's record of your studies. A confirmation is sent to your email, and the request is completed within thirty days.
You may also write to ict@unn.edu.ng for either.
Children
PRIDE is for registered students of the University and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
When this policy changes, the new version is published here with its date, and the app tells you at your next sign-in.
